Content, Blocks, and More
The drag-and-drop email editor is designed to make building beautiful, effective emails easy. It’s made up of two main sections: Blocks and Content. Blocks enable you to add and arrange content elements, such as images, columns, buttons, text, and more. The Body section helps you set the overall style of your email, choose a default text color, background, and other design details.
You can upload your own images or choose from our library of ready-to-use stock images. Plus, the Audit feature lets you track your changes as you go.
In this article, we’ll walk you through each feature available in the editor. Click on any section below to jump straight to the tool you want to learn more about.
BEFORE GETTING STARTED
Content elements can only be used when placed inside a block. For example, you can add a Heading Text element to a single-column block in your email.

Blocks
Each block is made up of one or more columns. Within these columns, you can add different content elements such as text, headings, images, buttons, and more.
To see the Block styling options
In your email, click outside of the content, and you'll see the outline of the block. Click anywhere on the outline, and to the left, you will see the styling options. It should be titled ROW.
Below we'll describe each of the styling options available for Blocks.
Columns: the block can be split into different sizes; some options include 50:50, 33:33:33, 25:25:25:25, and so forth. You can select the type of column to use before and after choosing your block. Before Go to blocks, select All. Click and drag your block of choice into the editor. After In the editor, click on your block section, and on the left side, choose the number of columns you want to use. When selecting a 2 or more column option, you will see editing options for each column. You can also delete or add more columns from this section. |

Column Properties Here you can set the Background color, padding, add a border, and a border color. The Border and Padding section provide a More Options section that allows you to add style for each side, top, bottom, right or left. Tip: Use a border to create a Boxed Text |
Block-Row Properties
The Row Properties within a block allow you to preset the background color for the entire row and column. You can also set a different color for the content added. If no content background color is selected, then the Row background color will be applied. Note: A column background color overrides the content background color. Upload Image Here you can add an image to the row background. Use the Image Options to modify how much of your image is visible. |
Saved Blocks
To save a section of your email, click on the block, and you'll see the Save option at the bottom right corner of the block. Apply a name and or tags for easy organization.
The saved blocks can be found in the Blocks menu option.

Content Elements
In the editor, the Content elements are what get placed inside of a Block. At times, we may refer to a block as a row or column. The Content elements enable you to add Text, images, buttons, and more.
Styling options are different based on the element you are using, below we will go over each element's options. |

Columns
Use the Columns element to add multiple columns to your email layout. Once the columns are in place, you can add other content elements—like text, images, or buttons—into each column. |

Text
With the Text element you add text to your email template. |

The text elements have two areas where you can edit, the popup toolbar and the menu to the left of the editor. Make sure to click on the text section to edit the content, both will open simultaneously. |
Text Toolbar
The toolbar that hovers over your text allows you to make quick changes like. (Make sure you highlight the text where you want to apply the changes)

Text Left Menu Options The Text Menu on the left side of the editor lets you customize your text with the following options:

Heading
Use the Heading element to create titles and subtitles | |
The Heading text toolbar is slightly different than the regular Text toolbar. The heading toolbar allows you to make minor changes to the heading, but does not have the option to add tables, lists, or use Smart Content. |
Image
The Image block allows you to upload your own images or use images from the stock options. After adding this block to your email template you can do the following:
Images used from the Stock Photos will be added to your Uploads. |

Button
Add a clear call-to-action to your email with the Button Block. You can customize the text, link, color, size, and alignment to match your brand and layout. The Smart Button option provides suggestions based on your button text, you can also add a few keywords and let SmartAssist generate new suggestions. |
Email buttons are used to drive action. They're one of the most important elements in your email because they serve as clear, clickable calls-to-action (CTAs) that guide your reader to the next step.

Action Type
Each action type has different options available.
Open Website
- Enter a URL
- Add Target
- Open the URL in the same tab
- Open in a new tab
Send Email
Prefill the email information.
Options available:
- Mail To
- Subject
- Body
Call Phone Number
- Phone Number
- When clicked only recipients phone apps will be visible.
Go to Page Section
Any previously named sections will appear in the dropdown option. Use this option to create a clickable links that take your email reader to another section of your email. For example, you can place a “Read More” button at the top of the email, when the reader clicks the button, the email will automatically scroll to that section. |
To use the Go to Page Section, you will first need to name a section. To name a section, click on the desired block and on the left menu scroll to Section Name, and enter a section name.
Button Options
Use the options below to style the look of your button.
- Background color
- Text Color
- Fonts
- Font Weight
- Regular
- Bold
- Color
- This applies to new text added to the section.
- Text Alignment
- This will align the entire text in the section if you want separate alignment for other text, you'll need to add a new text section.
- Line Height
- Adjust the spacing between lines of text.
- Letter Spacing
- Control the space between each character.
Spacing
The Spacing options help you control the size, shape, and placement of your button so it fits nicely in your email layout. These are the options available.
- Alignment

General
Container Padding
Refers to the space around the button within the container.
Divider
The Divider Block adds a horizontal line to your email. The divider can be used to create visual separation between different sections.
You can customize the width, thickness, and spacing around the line to match your email’s style.
Example: Use a divider to separate your product highlights from your closing message or to break up different articles in a newsletter.
Menu
Similar to a website navigation menu, the Menu Block lets you add a row of clickable links to your email. Each menu item can link to a webpage, open a phone number, jump to a section within the email, or start an email message (mailto link). | |
To use this block, drag it into the email. Then click +Add New Item. You'll then be able to select the type of link you want to use. Use the Styles tab to customize the look and feel of your menu so it matches your brand’s colors, fonts, and layout. |
Example: Use a menu with links like Resources, About Us, and Contact Us at the top or bottom of your email to improve navigation and boost engagement.
HTML
The HTML block enables you to insert custom HTML code directly into your email template. Use this code to add signatures, forms, and other HTML options.
Video
Add a video to your email by pasting in the video's URL. This adds a clickable video preview with a play button right in your email layout. Since the video isn’t hosted or played directly in the email, clicking the play icon will open the video in a new browser window where it’s hosted.
Use the Video block to add a video preview to your email. The video will not directly play in the email, but a thumbnail of the video will appear with a play icon. To use the video block, you'll need the video's URL. Then you'll have some options to edit Since the video isn’t hosted or played directly in the email, clicking the play icon will open the video in a new browser window where it’s hosted. |
After adding your video URL, you can customize:
- Play icon style (choose from different shapes)
- Play icon color (black, white, or red
- Icon size
- The padding around the video for spacing and layout
- Any edits to the video itself (like changing the title or thumbnail) must be done on the platform where the video is hosted.
- Most email clients don’t support video playback directly inside the email. The Video Block creates only creates a preview image with a play icon to drive clicks.
Social
The Social block allows you to easily add social media icons that link to your brand’s social media profiles. Including these links in your email is a simple way to increase engagement, drive traffic to your social pages, and enhance brand visibility.
To use the Social block:
- Drag and drop the Social block into your email layout.
- In the left-hand menu, click on a social media icon to add it to your email.
- In the Social Links field, paste the URL for your social media profile (e.g., https://facebook.com/yourbrand).
- Repeat to add more icons as needed.
Style Options
- Icon Type, choose from options like:
- Circle, Circle Black, Circle White, Round, Round Black, Round White, Square, and Square Black
- Only black and white colors are available for icon types. If you select the white circle style and apply a background color to the block, that color will appear inside the circle behind the icon. See example below:

Timer
The Timer block lets you add a real-time countdown to your email. When recipients open your email, the timer will actively count down to the time you’ve set, based on the time zone you chose. |
The Timer block is ideal for generating urgency around a sale, event, product launch, or limited-time offer.
To use the Timer block, follow the steps below:
- Drag the Timer block to your email layout.
- Then click on the Timer block in your email for the timer settings to appear.
- On the left menu, select the end time, timezone options, and language.
- The end time is the exact moment the countdown will end. If a recipient opens the email after the timer has ended, they will see it set to 00-00-00.
Timer Style Options
- Timer Labels
- Turn the labels (days, hours, etc.) on or off depending on the look you want.
- Background Colo
- Digit Color
- Label Color
- Digit Fonts
- Label Fonts
- Image Width
- Controls the overall size of the timer. The higher the width (in pixels), the larger the timer.
- Alignment
- Alternate Text
- Add alt text for the timer image. This helps screen readers and improves accessibility if the image doesn't load.
- Action (Clickable Link)
- You can make the timer clickable by assigning a URL. When recipients click the countdown, they'll be taken to the link you’ve set.
Body
The Body section is where you define the main design foundation for your entire email. It sets the default styles for key elements, ensuring your email has a consistent and professional look without needing to style each block individually.
What You Can Configure in the Body Section
- Text Color
- Sets the default font color for all Text blocks throughout your email.
You can still override this within individual blocks, but this acts as the base style.
- Background Color
- Controls the main background color of your email behind your content.
- Email Width
- Sets how wide your email content area will be.
- The default is 600px, which is the standard supported by most email clients for optimal display.
- Content Alignment
- Aligns your email content to the left, center, or right within the email design.
- Font Family
- Defines the default font used across your email (e.g., Arial, Helvetica, etc.).
- Font Weight
- Regular
- Bold
- Link Color
- Sets the default color of any hyperlinks used in your email content.
- You can override any of these styles within individual blocks (like a Text or Button block), but if no changes are made, each block will inherit the styles set in the Body.
- Setting consistent styles in the Body section saves time and ensures brand consistency across your message.
Images & Uploads
The Image and Upload options are available exclusively within the email editor. You can drag images from these folders into your email without needing to add an image block.
Image
The Image section in the email editor gives you access to a library of stock images you can browse and drag directly into your email. You can also use the built-in AI tool to generate custom images based on a prompt. |
The Image section is separate from the Image block, and doesn’t require you to add a content block before inserting an image. After inserting an image, you'll have the image block styling options available.
Images used from the stock or AI options will be saved to the Uploads folder.

Uploads
The Uploads section stores all images you’ve uploaded, as well as any stock or AI-generated images you've used in your emails. It's your personal image library, making it easy to reuse visuals across different campaigns. In the Uploads, you can upload images, drag in new images, or reuse previously uploaded images. |
The Uploads section is separate from the Image block, and doesn’t require you to add a content block before inserting an image. After inserting an image, you'll have the image block styling options available.
To reuse an image, simply drag it into the editor.
Audit
The Audit feature helps you review your email for potential issues before sending. It acts like a final checklist to ensure your email is well-optimized and error-free. If your email has possible issues, you'll see a notification on the Audit icon.

To use the Audit feature, click on the Audit option on the left menu of the editor.
