Domain Verification Status & How It Works

You’ve added your domain DNS records; now the waiting begins.

Once your records are added, they enter something called DNS propagation. That’s just a technical way of saying your records are being shared and made available across the internet.

Here’s how the process works:

Create Subdomain

  • You create your subdomain in Benchmark, and we give you records to add to your domain's DNS settings.
  • You add the DNS records to your domain's DNS management.

Propagation

  • Your domain provider begins publishing those records

Record Detection

  • Our system begins checking the internet for your records.
  • Once detected, the domain is verified.

This propagation step is the longest part of the domain verification process! Propagation is entirely controlled by your domain provider. Some providers update records within minutes, while others may take a few hours or even up to 2 days (48 hours).

How to avoid delays?

  • Double-check that your DNS records were copied exactly (no extra spaces or missing characters)
  • Avoid making repeated DNS changes; each change can restart propagation.
  • Use a lower TTL (Time to Live) setting if your provider allows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Benchmark speed up the process? No. The timing is controlled entirely by your domain provider. Once records are added, we have to wait for them to propagate.
Is there anything I should do during the verification process? No action is needed. Verification will complete automatically once your records are live.
How can I verify that the records were added correctly? Compare the records provided in Benchmark with those added in your domain DNS settings. The records should be identical.

Domain Verification Statuses

Status Behavior/Expectation

Verification is complete, and the subdomain is ready for use.

Records were added to DNS Settings, and propagation has begun.

The domain experienced one of the following:

  • DNS records were changed or removed
  • DNS account was suspended or closed

We tried verifying the new domain for 48+ hours, but the records did not propagate.

Verification failed, possibly due to one of the following:

  • Could not find DNS records
  • Could not find an NS record
  • DNS records don't match

If more than 48 hours have passed since you added your DNS records and your domain is still not verified, please contact our support team.
